The legacy of Michael Jordan shows no signs of slowing down, after a trading card bearing his signature sold for nearly $3million at auction this weekend.
MJ is widely regarded as the best NBA player of all-time, and fans clamored to get their hands on a rare piece of memorabilia through Goldin this weekend.
Up for auction was a 2003 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Michael Jordan Signed Logoman, and it ended up smashing all records to sell for an eyewatering $2,928,000 to an as-yet-unnamed buyer.
Nine bids were made on the one-of-one piece of memorabilia, Goldin confirmed, with the auction going past 10pm as collectors fought it out for the item.
The winning bid – which was $2.4m, bumped up to $2.9m with buyer’s premium – was made shortly before midnight.

Despite retiring in 2003, Jordan memorabilia continues to fetch huge money at auction
The card has been graded 10 by the PSA – the Professional Sports Authenticators – which indicates a ‘virtually perfect card’, hence the big money being spent.
Incredibly, while it is a record for a Jordan trading card, the $2.9m sale is still way off the all-time record, set by Mickey Mantle.
The New York Yankees legend’s 1952 Topps card was sold for an astounding $12.6m in August 2022 by Heritage Auctions.
MJ does, though, hold the record for the most expensive jersey of all-time.
His gameworn 1998 NBA Finals jersey for the Chicago Bulls – in which they beat the Utah Jazz – sold for $10.1m in September 2022.
Jordan was recently in the news when he shed a few tears while giving an emotional speech during the grand opening of his family’s third medical clinic with his mother Deloris in North Carolina.

The 61-year-old, six-time NBA champion partnered with healthcare company Novant Health to establish his latest Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic in Wilmington, which provides medical services to local inhabitants who are either uninsured or underinsured.
Moved by the impact his clinic will have on the city where he grew up, Jordan said: ‘It’s good to be home first and foremost. That’s what this clinic is about, when the families aren’t able to support, we’re there to support.
‘Don’t have any money? Doesn’t matter. We’re going to do everything we can to support you, because that’s what happened to me. That’s where I got it from.
‘… We did it in Charlotte, now we’re going to do it here in Wilmington, which makes it even more special because this is home. This is where I came from and no matter how you see Michael Jordan, this is where I started, this is where I’m always going to be a part of.’
