WNBA Rookie Angel Reese Reveals Biggest Personal Obstacle

Angel Reese has transformed herself into a formidable young star in the WNBA. The Chicago Sky rookie hasn’t just changed the game of women’s basketball off the floor. She’s produced impressive numbers in her first season as a pro.

The Sky’s starting forward is averaging 11.4 points and 9.2 rebounds through Chicago’s 4-5 record this season. Despite the Sky’s success with rookies like Reese and a first-year head coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, they’ve received major backlash online.

WNBA fans have been quick to call out Chicago’s physicality, and with Reese, her struggles in the efficiency realm have plagued her development. She’s shooting 33% from the field through nine games this season.

Reese recently spoke on the hardest part of her rookie season, given all of the pressure that lies on her shoulders.

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (5) talks with head coach Teresa Weatherspoon during a time out in the fourth quarter against the New York Liberty at Barclays Center.

“My hardest thing right now is just giving myself some grace, knowing that I have done some great things so far. Just being patient with the game, I know I have so much more room for improvement. My potential is through the sky,” said Reese via Kareem Copeland on X.

She was ranked as the No. 2 rookie in the updated ESPN power rankings. Reese hasn’t been perfect, but she’s growing day by day and proving to be one of the most impactful players on both ends of the floor in the league.

Reese previously went to social media to speak on this manner, saying, “Give yourself some grace. You’re doing great sweetie!” via Instagram.

For any athlete of elite talent, the goals and standards are set at the highest level. Reese expects a lot from herself, and even though she may take some criticism along the way, she’s working on giving herself grace for what she’s built.
