“Lock them doors” – Angel Reese caught off guard by police sirens during IG live in Chicago.

Chicago Sky v Dallas Wings

Angel Reese is getting a culture shock living in Chicago

Drafted by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA draft, Angel Reese has moved into her new city and is learning to adjust to life in Illinois. The 22-year-old recently got bugged in her sleep hearing the loud sirens of police cars right outside her home.

Turning on her Instagram livestream, the Chicago Sky rookie wanted her followers to listen to the police sirens from her balcony expressing a bit of fear.

“The police outside everyday in Chicago.. Lock them doors,” said Reese.

Chicago has a reputation as one of the most dangerous cities in the US. The site PropertyClub had them as the 13th most dangerous city in the country for 2024, with a crime rate of 3,926 per 100,000 people.

But as Angel Reese is adjusting to life in Chicago, she seems to be adjusting well to life in the WNBA. The former LSU star is averaging 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in her first two games as a pro.

Angel Reese flexes her LSU degree to her naysayers

Having spent four years at LSU, Angel Reese is moving forward to her new career in professional basketball with the Chicago Sky and even managed to finish her degree as a college athlete.

After earning a degree in communications, she sent out a strong message to her doubters while posting her graduation photos.

“I graduated from THE LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY IN 4 YEARS ON TIME. I thought somebody without a college degree said sum,” posts Reese.

During her tenure with LSU, Reese was able to lead the Tigers to a championship in 2023. Like any other overachiever, she has faced public scrutiny and got to dismiss rumors about her academic performance to encourage Black women to push for their dreams of finishing college.

Reese’s mother, Angel Webb Reese, also chimed in to address critics, saying that education is very important for their family as both she and her husband hold a college degree, setting a standard for their children.

“For the most part I think I do a good job in ignoring the naysayers when it comes to my children so y’all can keep listening to those folks who do to even know what GPA even stands for let alone have not sniffed a GPA since high school,” said Angel Reese’s mother.

Aside from winning the NCAA championship and earning a bachelor’s degree, Angel Reese also bagged the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player award and got the distinction of being a unanimous first-team All-American.
