The Caitlin Clark hype has taken off since she was drafted No. 1 overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

The rise in popularity of the WNBA has come slowly in recent years but with Clark and other young talent in the league now, it has skyrocketed. Clark is one of the biggest stars in all of sports and sometimes that can run people the wrong way.

While members of the WNBA have disputed claims that they don’t want her in the league, other moments may hint at a different meaning. In Saturday’s game against the Chicago Sky, a 71-70 win that elevated the Fever to a 2-8 record on the year, Clark was hit with a very hard foul by guard Chennedy Carter, knocking her to the ground. It seemed like an unnecessary foul at the time but the game carried on.

After the game, Clark was asked about the foul and she didn’t mince words.

“That’s just not a basketball play,” Clark said.

A defiant Carter, meanwhile, refused to answer any questions about the foul, adding more intrigue to the entire situation.

“I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions,” Carter noted.

Fever head coach Christie Sides said that she has been sending different plays to the WNBA league office for review following multiple incidents with Clark.

“I’ll probably send it in to the league,” Sides said. “That’s what we keep doing. We just keep sending all these clips into the league, and they keep telling us why we’re not right about our calls, or what we think [about them]. But we’re going to keep doing it. These guys are going to start getting calls. They’ve got to start getting calls.”

Caitlin ClarkThis isn’t the first time that Clark has gotten hit hard on a foul and comes on the heels of her getting into an altercation with Seattle Storm guard Victoria Vivians in the Fever’s last game. Clark was issued a technical foul and everything moved on.

The Fever and Clark got the last laugh by winning the game. It was a back-and-forth contest throughout with both teams throwing blows at one another.

Some players may not like that Clark has entered the league to this much hype, and it’s showing on the court. The former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar has expressed confidence throughout her time playing basketball and that has carried over to her early days in the WNBA. While members of the WNBA say that they love having Clark around, the actions of others tell a completely different story.
