Caitlin Clark has had her fair share of “welcome to the league” moments through her first nine WNBA games.
Hard fouls, poor shooting and double-digit turnovers have all plagued Clark’s rookie season thus far. It’s the fouls that have raised the most concerns, however.

As the WNBA’s viewership increases, more fans have been discussing the fouls Clark endures each game. Most recently, Sky guard Chennedy Carter body-checked Indiana’s rookie, sparking an uproar from social media.
The play was ruled an away-from-play foul, so Carter avoided a technical or flagrant.
While social media immediately supported Clark, it opened up a broader discussion about her Fever teammates. Why did nobody defend Clark in that moment? Draymond Green, a well-known NBA enforcer, chimed in on the situation himself, giving the Fever some advice.
Here’s what the Warriors star had to say.
What did Draymond Green say about Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever?
Green said the Fever should acquire an enforcer to protect Clark. He made his suggestion via an Instagram comment on an ESPN post about the interaction between Clark and Carter.
The Warriors forward doesn’t seem happy with how Clark’s teammates are reacting when Clark takes a hard foul, hence him suggesting someone step up and defend the team’s star. Green has done this himself throughout his career. He regularly protects Stephen Curry because he’s aware of how important Curry is to Golden State’s success.
The enforcer role isn’t new either. This has been going on for decades in most sports, but particularly in the NBA. Whether it was Dennis Rodman, Charles Oakley or Ron Artest, they weren’t afraid to protect their team.
Who should be Indiana’s enforcer?
The enforcer really could be anybody who is willing to be the tough player on the team. The Fever could look inward and hope someone on their roster steps up, but fans have already begun to look outward.
A name that’s circled around social media lately is former WNBA player Liz Cambage. The 6-9 32-year-old center is currently playing in China following a controversial and abrupt departure from the Sparks in 2022. Some fans believe she can be that veteran protector Clark needs.
There’s been no indication that the Fever will make a move, but every hard foul against Clark moving forward will be under microscopic attention.
