After On-Court Troubles for Caitlin Clark, Indiana Head Coach Christie Sides Gets Called for a Technical Foul
“Not every foul is being called, and I guess that’s how it is.” Caitlin Clark has been saying this in almost every interview. And seems like the pot is now brimming. Many fans have been pointing out how she is facing the worst of the WNBA’s physicality. They also believe that the referees are adamant about letting it go. However, Christie Sides, who has been facing the wrath of the fans, has finally stood up for her rookie.
Tonight, Christie Sides picked a technical foul while saving her star rookie on the floor. This happened during the late third quarter when Clark drove to the basket, but the Storm players caught her. Consequently, when the referees did not make any call on what seemed to be a clear foul, Sides got frustrated.
She displayed her outburst on Charles Watson, one of the officials for the night. Subsequently, she was assigned a technical foul. As a result, the Storm veteran, Skylar Diggins-Smith, went to the stripe for a technical free throw. She eventually missed the opportunity.
Christie Sides has seen enough and erupts on the official after the no-call as Caitlin Clark attacked the basket.
The game which saw Indiana Fever trailing by six points at the halftime mark, turned into a 103-88 loss. While technical fouls don’t usually end in applause, a frustrated Gainbridge Fieldhouse surely erupted in one as the head coach sided with her rookie for what everyone is calling ‘intense physicality’. It is a great example of loyalty. She had earlier spoken about how her players need to stop talking to the referees and let her handle the calls. After tonight’s game, Caitlin Clark too could not stay quiet.
Caitlin Clark confesses to “being hammered”
The night did not turn out well for the young core as the veterans on Seattle’s roster got the better of them. After three consecutive losses, the Fever’s annoyance on the W is growing. Hence, the first overall pick finally broke her silence on her thoughts. In her post-game press conference, she said, “Feel like I’m getting hammered. I appreciate Christie getting a tech too. I just, I don’t know.”
The much-hyped basketball player, who entered the professional leagues after breaking numerous records in the NCAA, has had a tough start to life in the WNBA. While Indiana currently has a 1-8 record, the much worse fact is that her performance in these games will affect whether she gets into the Team USA roster for the Paris Olympics. While she is currently averaging 17.5 points and 6.5 assists per clip, there are chances that her dream just might not come to fruition this time around.
Currently, the Fever is the only team at the moment that has played as many as 9 games. Adding more to the hectic WNBA schedule, Caitlin Clark and Co. will host Chicago Sky for the first Commissioner’s Cup game of the season on June 1, 2024.
