There has been a debate stirring in the WNBA hallways as of late.

It all started when Charles Barkley went on live television and attempted to comfort Caitlin Clark while giving her credit for the rise of the WNBA. Barkley may have been trying to speak a positive note for the WNBA, but it came across as negative for many players and fans.

The consensus believes that Barkley was showing favoritism toward Clark and virtually saying that she’s the only reason there’s been growth in the league.

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese seemed to take offense to the topic. She went to X after a recent Sky victory and mentioned that there isn’t just one team or player on the podium in the WNBA. The post has since been deleted, but Reese’s teammate, Kamilla Cardoso, decided to double down and back what Reese explained.

“All of our game is sold out. It’s not become of one person and goodbye. That was the last thing I’m going to say about this,” said Cardoso, via Sapphics Source on X.

Reese and Cardoso have also been huge sponsors of the WNBA’s rise in viewership and revenue. It doesn’t seem like they’ve attempted to call Clark out directly, but comments from people like Barkley are disrespectful to those who have always layed down bricks to build the fort.

The Sky will continue to survive and advance in the 2024 season. They currently stand at No. 8 in the Eastern Conference with a 2-2 record.
