NY Liberty Coach Clearly Outlines Key To Shutting Down Caitlin Clark After Fever Game.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever suffered their second loss in as many games at the hands of the New York Liberty. The final score wasn’t pretty for the Fever, getting blown out in their WNBA home debut by 36 with a final tally of 102-66.

The Liberty were able to shut down Clark for most of the game. She was only able to record nine points on 2 of 8 shooting and 1 of 7 from three to go along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Following the game, Liberty coach Sandy Brondello, when asked about their Caitlin Clark gameplan, outlined the key to shutting her down.

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) rushes up the court past New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu (20) on Thursday, May 16, 2024, during the Indiana Fever home opener game against the New York Liberty at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

“Yeah, I though we executed our scout really well. Caitlin demands so much respect out there and attention and that’s what we did,” Brondello said, “We have Betnijah Laney. What more could you ask? One of the best defenders in this league, if not the best.”

Laney has been named to a WNBA All-Defensive Team two times in her career.

Brondello continued, “She really just takes it on you and is just committed to excellence and you know, Caitlin, it made it tough for her and now we have to repeat it again.”
