Not even movies are written as well as Caitlin Clark’s story.
The Iowa senior became the major-college all-time scoring leader March 3 during the Hawkeyes’ game against Ohio State. It was Iowa’s final regular season home game and Senior Night, an all-important game regardless of Clark’s record chase.
What a way for the Hawkeyes to finish the regular season.
Those looking to commemorate Clark’s historic season can do so with one of Nike’s custom shirts that celebrates the new college basketball record.
Caitlin Clark shirt: ‘This was never a long shot’
Clark’s record was once again memorialized with a Nike t-shirt. After the Hawkeye broke Kelsey Plum’s record, the company released a shirt with the tagline “You break it, you own it.” This time, after becoming the major-college all-time scoring leader for both men and women, they created a different slogan.
“This was never a long shot.”
Nike also produced a commercial for Clark’s record, which was first shown on the Fox broadcast after Clark scored her 3,668th career point against Ohio State.
Before the Iowa-Ohio State game, the brand put billboards up around Iowa City to celebrate Clark. After she broke the record, Nike added the slogan across the street from a poster of Clark’s historic three-pointer against Michigan game.
The Nike t-shirt is white, the same color as Iowa’s jerseys the night Clark broke Plum’s scoring record.
The front includes a photo of the the moment, when she nailed a logo three, as well as the orange basketball sailing through the air.
The Hawkeye and Nike logos sit next to each other on the left sleeve while the back of the shirt is blank.
The short-sleeve shirt retails for $35 USD.
Caitlin Clark Nike NIL deal
Clark’s history with Nike is rich.
In October 2022, she signed with the brand as part of Nike’s first NIL basketball ambassador roster. Haley Jones, Juju Watkins, DJ Wagner and Bronny James also became ambassadors.
“I grew up watching Nike athletes across all sports play their game. They have inspired me to work hard and make a difference. I’m humbled to be part of this first Nike basketball class and passionate about inspiring the next,” Clark said when she the partnership was made official.
The deal allows Nike to sell memorabilia with Clark’s name and number on it. It’s made possible with the new NCAA NIL rules, which were passed in 2021.
Clark’s annual NIL valuation is $818,000, per On3’s NIL rankings.
