WNBA star Cameron Brink has been reduced to tears after finding out she would be heading to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Just two months after being selected second overall in the WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, 22-year-old Brink landed a spot on Team USA’s 3×3 Olympic roster.

In a moving video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Brink was surprised at home by USA Basketball 3×3 Director Jay Demings.

“The 3×3 selection committee met, and on behalf of the committee and the USA Basketball board of directors, we’re gonna offer you a spot on the 3×3 Olympic team,” he said, immediately sending Brink into floods of tears.

“Thank you,” she replied, swiftly exclaiming, “Oh my God!” as Demings showed Brink her Team USA jersey, sending her to tears once more.

“It feels absolutely surreal, I was not expecting this whatsoever,” Brink later said.

“But I’ve worked very hard for this. I love the coaches, the committee, everything. So I’m just beyond grateful.”

Brink later noted that becoming an Olympian was something she had dreamt of “my whole life,” saying that the idea of winning a gold medal was “insane.”

She will line up alongside Cierra Burdick, Rhyne Howard of the Atlanta Dream, and Hailey Van Lith of TCU.

They will be led by head coach and Hall of Famer Jennifer Rizzotti and assistant Tammi Reiss – the current Rhode Island head coach.

“I say this all the time but there is no greater privilege than to represent the USA at the Olympics,” Rizzotti said via a statement, as per ESPN.

“We understand that challenge in front of us as we face tremendous talent and experienced 3×3 teams.

“I am confident this roster gives us what we need to compete for another gold medal with experience, versatility and a commitment to USA Basketball excellence.

“I cannot wait to get started.”

Tokyo 2020 marked the first time 3×3 basketball, which is played on half courts with just one hoop, was included in the Olympics.

Players can score two points behind what is usually the three-point line, and one point from within.

Along with the smaller courts, 3×3 basketball also has a 10-minute game clock as well as a 12-second shot clock.

Teams win by either reaching 21 points or by leading when the 10 minutes is up.

In 2020, Stefanie Dolson, Jackie Young, Kelsey Plum, and Allisha Gray won gold, with the Russian Olympic Committee coming second, and China third.

Fast forward to 2023, and Rizzotti led Brink, Burdick, Van Lith, and Linnae Harper to a gold medal at the World Championship.

Once in Paris, Team USA will take on France, China, Spain, Azerbaijan, Australia, Germany, and Canada.

Games will be played at the Place de la Concorde in the heart of Paris.
