When you hit a player in the face with an open hand and they tumble to the ground in a heap, it tends to be called a flagrant foul, if not a flagrant 2, resulting in the ejection of the aggressor.

In Game 4 between the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers, it went down as a common foul.

NBA fans were outraged after Celtics’ star Jaylen Brown hit TJ McConnell blatantly in the face with an open hand while going for a rebound. McConnell fell to the ground hard, landing on his tailbone area with no brace for his fall.

Despite how bad the foul looked, the play was ruled a common foul.

Typically, when a player is hit above the neck, it is ruled as a flagrant foul, so it’s very strange that this didn’t reach that level. It’s safe to say that fans did not agree after all was said and done.
