Becky Hammon Gave Her Honest Assessment of Kate Martin’s WNBA Debut

On Saturday, Las Vegas Aces rookie Kate Martin took the floor for her first career regular-season WNBA minutes.

The former Iowa star impressed in her debut, notching three points, three assists, five rebounds and a big-time block through 26 minutes of play.

Las Vegas head coach Becky Hammon loved what she saw from her rookie.

“She just doesn’t make mistakes,” Hammon said. “She executed our schemes really well… She plays so hard. Her sense of urgency has really been there the whole time.”

The Aces selected Martin with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She impressed in training camp and preseason, enough to earn her a final roster spot with the back-to-back WNBA champs.

Martin didn’t take the court for the Aces’ season-opening game, but she’s clearly building up a level of trust with Hammon as the season wears on. If she continues at this pace, it appears Martin will be a valuable member of the Aces’ rotation.

Hammon, Martin and the Aces will face off against the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday night.
