Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are names that rarely need introductions. Their popularity in their respective careers of music and football is almost unmatched. Now the two have become an iconic pairing in just a short amount of time.

How did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship start?

The high-profile relationship began after the Kansas City Chiefs player attended Taylor’s Eras Tour concert at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2023.

In July 2023, Travis revealed on his podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, New Heights, that he was unsuccessful at trying to give Taylor a friendship bracelet after the concert.

“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Travis said. “So I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”

Travis admitted that his bracelet had his phone number on it.

“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets,” Travis said. “I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”

Months went by without an update on Travis’ attempt to reach out to Taylor, but fans speculated if there was a connection.

When did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce meet?

On Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, fans were shocked to see Taylor inside Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City as the Chiefs took on the Chicago Bears. During the game, Taylor made it clear that she was rooting for the home team and their tight end.

Following the 41-10 victory that Travis and his team claimed, a video began circulating on social media. Travis and Taylor were seen walking side-by-side as they left the stadium together.

Taylor also received approval from Travis’ teammate, Patrick Mahomes.

“Yeah, I met her. She’s really cool, good people,” the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback said in a press conference on Sept. 27, 2023. “But like Trav said, man, I’m going to let them have their privacy and just keep it moving.”

In the hours following their public debut, a source revealed to ET that Travis and Taylor had privately spent time together. She was also seen at Travis’ house with his family ahead of the game in Kansas City.

Taylor has attended several games since then, and Travis went to Buenos Aires on Nov. 11 for Taylor’s concert. This particular night was the beginning of a shift in the way the two share their relationship in public.

After the show, the crowds went wild as Taylor diverted expectations during her typical wave goodbye to the fans.

Taylor acknowledged the folks in the stands, spotted Travis waiting for her, and ran to greet him with a hug and kiss.

On Jan. 28, the Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl after a win against the Baltimore Ravens. Travis was greeted by Taylor again, this time on his own turf.

They shared a hug and kiss once again, with plenty of high-quality cameras on the field to capture the moment. She and Travis then walked together through the crowds to find his brother and celebrate the win.

What has been the response from fans?

After the first game that Taylor attended in September, sales of Travis’ jersey have increased significantly, even more than Mahomes.

Sales of Travis’ No. 87 jersey soared roughly 400% after Taylor attended the game.

Many have expressed frustration with Taylor being shown on TV during Chiefs games, and feel that she is distracting attention away from the players.

However, some feel that Taylor has brought in a new audience of younger people who have come to enjoy the sport, as well as seeing their favorite pop star on screen.

Did Taylor Swift put Travis Kelce on the map?

When jersey sales skyrocketed for the Chiefs, many fans began to have fun with the idea that Taylor made Travis famous.

A TikTok trend was spurred from there and Taylor’s fans jokingly asked their significant others and friends how they feel about the musician putting Travis on the map.

Travis, a two-time Super Bowl champion, was arguably already “on the map” – so the TikTok trend elicits passionate responses from football fans.

Travis’ own brother got in on the joke. “Well Trav, how does it feel that Taylor Swift finally put you on the map?” Jason asked.

Travis said he’s on a “rollercoaster of life,” since their first appearance together in September of 2023.
