There’s a QB who’s much better than Patrick Mahomes

Johnny Manziel recently said that Kyler Murray is the GOAT of Texas high school football on the “Club Shay Shay,” podcast. “If you know anything about Texas High School football, I would say (Kyler Murray’s) resume and what he did makes him hands down the best Texas high school football player to ever play,” Manziel said.

Manziel emphasized the unparalleled accomplishments and accolades that Murray amassed during his time at Allen High School. Murray’s tenure saw him guide the team to three straight state championships, maintaining a flawless 42-0 record as the team’s starting QB. Despite Murray’s extraordinary success at the high school level, his transition to the NFL has not yielded the same level of dominance. In contrast, Patrick Mahomes may not boast the same sterling high school credentials as Murray, but he has witnessed a meteoric rise in the NFL.

But there was always the chance that he might have chosen a different route entirely.

Mahomes a baseball star?

Before Mahomes emerged as a football sensation, the prevailing assumption in Texas was that he would follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in baseball. His father, Pat Mahomes Sr., had enjoyed a successful tenure as a relief pitcher in MLB from 1992 to 2003. However, Patrick’s trajectory took a different turn when he secured the starting QB position in the fall of 2012.
