Brenton Doyle homered among his two hits, Ezequiel Tovar tripled and doubled in the fourth inning and finished with three hits, and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Francisco Giants 9-1 in Denver on Thursday.
Charlie Blackmon tripled, doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Elias Diaz had two hits and Cal Quantrill tossed six strong innings to help Colorado end a four-game skid. The Rockies sent 11 batters to the plate in a seven-run fourth inning.
Quantrill (2-3) followed up his best outing with another solid start. Quantrill pitched 7 2/3 shutout innings in a 3-2 win at Pittsburgh on Friday and built on that Thursday. He allowed one run on five hits, walked three and struck out five to earn his second straight win.
Michael Conforto homered among his two hits and Thairo Estrada also had two hits for San Francisco, which was outhit 14-7.
Giants shortstop Nick Ahmed aggravated a sore left wrist during his at-bat in the third inning and left the game in the fourth. Ahmed, who was hit by a line drive on the wrist on April 27 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, said after the game that an MRI is scheduled for Friday.
Both starters were efficient through the first three innings before the Giants ended a scoreless game with Conforto’s leadoff homer in the fourth, his seventh of the season.
Colorado came right back in its half of the fourth to go in front in a span of five pitches from Keaton Winn. Tovar led off with a triple to right-center field, Ryan McMahon singled on the next pitch to tie it and Diaz doubled on an 0-1 count to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead.
Sean Bouchard lined a double down the third-base line on Winn’s next offering and Brendan Rodgers’ single put runners on the corners with no outs.
Doyle continued the rally with a three-run homer to center, his fourth of the season. Winn got the next two batters, but Blackmon’s triple ended his day, and Blackmon scored on Tovar’s double off of reliever Randy Rodriguez.
Winn (3-5) allowed seven runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Blackmon drove in single runs in the sixth and eighth to reach 762 career RBIs, fourth most in franchise history.
