On Sunday night, Kate Martin and the Las Vegas Aces will travel west to face Cameron Brink and the Los Angeles Sparks.

Martin, a former Iowa Hawkeyes star, is already considered the steal of the 2024 WNBA draft after being selected with the No. 18 pick in the second round. She is averaging four points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 19.4 minutes per game with the Aces.

On Saturday, Aces head coach Becky Hammon revealed that with Chelsea Gray already being ruled unavailable, if guard Jackie Young cannot play against the Sparks as well, Martin will start in her place.

In the latest injury report from the Aces, Young has ruled been out due to an illness, so Martin will be making her first career WNBA start.

Aces reporter Callie Lawson-Freeman revealed Hammon’s comments and the Aces injury report on social media.

“FWIW: Becky Hammon said Kate Martin would start if Jackie Young couldn’t play vs. the Wings. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case tomorrow in LA.”

Fans are excited to see Martin making her first WNBA start, especially after Martin thought she would fall into obscurity after her Iowa career.
