New York Liberty Coach Issues Blunt Warning to Caitlin Clark Before Fever Matchup

Caitlin Clark will once again take the WNBA floor when the Indiana Fever face off against the New York Liberty on Thursday night.

Clark scored 20 points in her regular-season debut against the Connecticut Sun, but also coughed up a whopping 10 turnovers in the process.

The Sun deployed a physical brand of defense on Clark in her “Welcome to the WNBA” debut — and the Liberty plan to use a similar strategy.

During her pregame media availability, Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello said her team plans to be “physical” with Clark in tonight’s game as well.

“Connecticut is one of the best defensive teams in this league. They showed the physicality, the scheming was right on point. We’re gonna steal from each other, if it works… it starts with Caitlin, but gotta take away Boston, Smith, Kelsey,” Brondello said, via WNBA insider Myles Ehrlich.

Brondello’s game plan for Clark comes from a position of respect. The Liberty aren’t taking the No. 1 overall pick’s talent lightly as they approach Thursday night’s contest.

“We’ve had other great talent come through, but at the moment, it’s Caitlin’s time,” Brondello continued. “Diana and Sue, Swoopes and Lisa, Stewie, Jewell Loyd – they come in and they’re confident in what they do. They know how to put the ball in the basket.”

Clark will look to overcome the Liberty’s physical defense and put up an improved performance in her second WNBA game.

Thursday night’s contest will tipoff at 7 p.m. ET in Indianapolis.
