Patrick Mahomes Learned From Brady, ‘Do Whatever I Can’ for Chiefs’ Super Bowl 3-Peat

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is channeling a Tom Brady-like mindset in his pursuit of winning three straight Super Bowls, a feat that has never been accomplished in league history.

“I’m going to celebrate tonight. I’m going to celebrate at the parade,” Mahomes told reporters after he led his team to back-to-back Lombardi Trophies with a 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

“Then, I’ll do whatever I can to be back in this game next year and try to go for that three-peat. It’s an ongoing thing in the NFL. Once you win that championship, you have those parades and you get those rings, and then you’re not the champ anymore. You have to come back with that same mentality.

“I’ve learned from guys like [Tom] Brady who have been the greatest of all time, at the top of the level. That’s my mindset. I’m going to celebrate with my guys for how we’ve done this, but then we’re going to work our way to get back to this game next year.”

The Chiefs just became the first team to go back-to-back since Brady’s New England Patriots accomplished the feat in 2003 and 2004.

Now Kansas City can do something no NFL team has even done in winning three straight Super Bowls. In the pre-Super Bowl era, a three-peat was accomplished just once by the 1929-1931 Green Bay Packers.

If Mahomes is already looking towards that historical accomplishment, then Brady’s GOAT mindset is a good model to use. His seven Super Bowl wins (and five Super Bowl MVP) both rank No. 1 among players all time. Brady’s final Lombardi Trophy was also courtesy of Mahomes and the Chiefs in Feb. 2021, when his Tampa Bay Buccaneers won 31-9 to cap Super Bowl LV.

But Mahomes, a three-time Super Bowl winner himself, is now looking forward to the next prize, which will be awarded at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on Feb. 9, 2025.
