Dan Patrick Settles Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese Debate With Simple Message

National media coverage of the WNBA has reached all-time heights early in the 2024 season — in large part due to the arrival of No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark and the talented rookie draft class.

Another member of Clark’s draft class, No. 7 overall pick Angel Reese, made sure to set the record straight with some comments on Monday.

The Chicago Sky forward argued that she should also be included in the conversation when discussing the growth of the WNBA.

“I’ll look back in 20 years and be like the reason why we’re watching women’s basketball is not just because of one person. It’s because of me, too. I want y’all to realize that,” Reese said.

There’s no question that Reese’s presence in the WNBA has been a driving factor in the league’s recent success. But, Clark’s superstardom is clearly making the biggest impact.

During Tuesday’s episode of The Dan Patrick Show, Patrick made his thoughts on the matter very clear.

“People are noticing the game now because of Caitlin Clark, not Angel Reese. Angel Reese has played a role in this and she’s a very good player… but make no mistake about it Caitlin Clark is the reason everyone has an opinion,” Patrick said.

After saying she deserved credit for the recent success of women’s basketball, Reese clarified that many other players have also contributed to the game’s growth.

“It’s not just because of one person. A lot of us have done so much for this game… There are so many great players for this league that have deserved this for a really, really long time,” Reese continued. “Luckily, it’s coming now.”
