Patrick Mahomes overtakes Terry Bradshaw with ‘insane’ NFL stat – and he did it in 72 fewer games than Steelers legend

PATRICK Mahomes is well on track to become a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

And the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has already overtaken Pittsburgh Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw with one amazing career stat.

Mahomes has thrown 28,424 passing yards in his career to date, which is ahead of Bradshaw’s mark of 27,989.

But what makes Mahomes’ record so impressive is that he has done it in 72 fewer games than the Steelers icon.

Mahomes has reached his throwing mark in 96 games, compared to Bradshaw’s 168 games.

Many NFL fans have commented that defenses were tougher in Bradshaw’s era and that modern-day quarterbacks throw the ball far more often.

“Much different eras. I expect it in today’s pass happy league,” one fan said.

“They throw the ball 3 times as much as they did in Terry’s day,” another fan said.

“The game has completely changed because of rules to protect QB’s as well as receivers,” a third added.

Mahomes is currently 65th on the all-time list – but he is sure to climb the ranks as he is just 28 years old.

The all-time leader is New England Patriots legend Tom Brady, who threw an incredible 89,214 yards.

Bradshaw recently warned Mahomes of what to expect as he attempts the three-peat in 2024.

Mahomes and the Chiefs became the first team since Brady’s 2003-04 Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowls this February.

Immediately after the game, Mahomes declared his intention to become the first team in NFL history to win three titles in a row.

However, according to four-time Super Bowl champion Bradshaw, who won back-to-back titles twice, this will be an extremely tough task.

“He thought this year was tough, wait till next year,” he told Rich Eisen.

“Everybody will be after him. I tried to go for three Super Bowls in a row twice. Hey Rich, it’s exhausting.

“Everybody wants a piece of you. Everybody plays above what they’re capable of playing. You feel the pressure.”

Bradshaw explained that the regular season will be a tough battle for the Chiefs as was the case this year, adding he felt they were likely “bored” as they waited for the playoffs to arrive.

“They’re going to probably struggle worse than they did, they’ll probably have to go on the road again because [the Denver Broncos are] going to be better,” he said.

“I guarantee you the [Los Angeles] Chargers are going to be better, the [Las Vegas] Raiders with [Antonio] Pierce leading the way, they’re going to be better.

“It is not going to be easy in their division.”

As for Mahomes himself, Bradshaw was hesitant to declare him the greatest player of all time just yet, explaining, “I’ll do that when he retires.”

That being said, he did say he was currently in that bracket alongside the likes of Brady, Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, and Bart Starr.

In fact, Bradshaw already had Mahomes in the top two.

“I would put Mahomes up there right now simply because he reminds me so much of Brady,” he admitted.
